"Big Idea" Awarded to Bryan Gates, EA

Bryan Gates, EA, of San Marcos, CA, was honored with the “Big Idea” award from the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA) on August 4 at its 2015 National Conference at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Gates received the award in recognition of his vision and guidance in implementing the plan for the National Tax Practice Institute™ (NTPI®), which has become the nation’s premier education program on representation of clients before the IRS. Previously, the NAEA Board of Directors resolved to bestow on Gates the honorary title of “Father of NTPI” for his contributions.

“It’s fitting that on this 30th anniversary of NTPI we acknowledge Bryan’s work with this award,” said NAEA President Terry Durkin, EA. “His goal of providing the highest quality of representation education available has been realized.”

NAEA earned its reputation for educational excellence with the NTPI®, the country’s premier annual education event designed specifically for enrolled agents, CPAs and tax attorneys seeking to specialize in representation of clients facing the IRS for audits, collections or appeals. After completing three levels of NTPI, graduates earn the prestigious designation “NTPI Fellow®,” held by the country’s top tax professionals. Since its creation in 1985, NTPI has been providing attendees with the knowledge and the confidence to take on the IRS. Nearly 3,000 tax professional now hold the prestigious designation of NTPI Fellow®.

Bryan Gates, EA, worked at the local and national level of the Internal Revenue Service beginning in 1963. After ten years, he left the IRS to work on the taxpayer’s side as a taxpayer’s representative. Bryan is now the editor and annotator of West’s Internal Revenue Manual, Abridged & Annotated.
